At this time the Liatis Foundation has fully committed its resources to several deserving organizations. As the Foundation grows, it may be able to expand its support. Organizations that share the same values as Liatis and meet the criteria outlined below can apply for a grant.
To be eligible for consideration by the Foundation, an organization must have received a determination letter or letters from the Internal Revenue Service indicating that it is an organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and is treated as other than a private foundation within the meaning of Section 509(a) of the code. An organization also may qualify if it falls within the terms of Section 170(c)(1) and the contribution requested is to be used exclusively for public purposes.
The Foundation requests preliminary inquiries, in the form of a letter briefly describing the project or program, prior to the filing of formal applications. If the project falls within foundation guidelines, a formal proposal will be accepted for staff review. In some instances, site visits are conducted by directors or staff.
Applicants are then requested to submit a formal proposal providing the nature of the organization, its objectives, its activities, and its personnel, as well as the need to be met and the proposed project or program designed to meet that need. A copy of the most recent financial and operating budget will also need to be provided for review by the directors.
The directors meet semiannually to discuss applications. Applications to be considered must be received no later than May 1 and November 1, respectively. Grant determination is completed in December of each year for the upcoming year’s operating budget. Applicants whose proposals have been approved will receive a letter outlining the terms and conditions of the grant.
Grant Applications should be addressed to:
